DayOne, a Singapore-based data center developer and operator, has announced plans to invest approximately EUR 1.2 billion in a new hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, Finland. The project will redevelop a 98,901 square meter former industrial site in the Kiveriö neighborhood, targeting up to 128 megawatts IT load, with the initial phase delivering a 50 megawatt IT load building. Construction will begin with site demolition in the third quarter of 2025, with operations scheduled to commence in 2027.
The company is targeting data center customers that require advanced, high-performance infrastructure, and is in ongoing negotiations with potential tenants, although no lease agreements have been finalized. DayOne highlights applications and target markets in the hyperscale segment, with a campus design focused on large-scale digital infrastructure workloads.
A Growth Partnership Agreement has been established with the City of Lahti, Lahti Region Development, Lahti Energy, and local educational institutions. This includes a EUR 2.5 million commitment to LUT Universities and initiatives to support joint research and development, student internships, and faculty engagement focused on data center and information and communications technology (ICT) skills. The partnership aims to foster local participation in campus operations, drive talent development, and promote innovation in cold-climate data center technology.
According to Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne Data Centers: “Finland is an ideal strategic choice for our European growth,” said Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne Data Centers. “With its reliable energy infrastructure, renewable energy leadership, highly skilled workforce, and naturally favorable climate that significantly reduces energy consumption and operational costs, Finland offers unique advantages that align perfectly with our commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure. Recognised as European Green Capital 2021, Lahti is advancing towards carbon neutrality, making it a natural fit with DayOne’s sustainability goals. We are proud to invest EUR 1.2 billion on Lahti project into the Finnish economy and collaborate closely with Lahti to drive local innovation and sustainability.”
DayOne’s development in Lahti aligns with the city’s digitalization and sustainability objectives and follows previous joint investment activity in Finland, including partnership with Finnish company Hyperco in Kouvola. DayOne maintains a presence in Asia Pacific and Europe, with ongoing operations in markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, and Finland.
