Prometheus Hyperscale, Spiritus, and Casper Carbon Capture to develop carbon-negative data center campus in Wyoming

Prometheus Hyperscale, Spiritus, and Casper Carbon Capture have announced a partnership to develop a carbon-negative digital infrastructure campus in Wyoming, with a planned minimum initial investment of $500 million and a targeted total IT-ready capacity of up to 1.5 gigawatt delivered in multiple phases. According to the companies, the first IT-ready power is planned for 2026, positioning the proposed data center among the largest artificial intelligence (AI)-focused infrastructure developments in the Rocky Mountain region.

The development aims to meet increasing demand for AI compute while embedding carbon removal capabilities. Prometheus Hyperscale will handle the design and financing of high-density compute halls utilizing proprietary aquifer-based, non-consumptive water-cooling systems to maximize energy efficiency in support of hyperscale and colocation workloads. Spiritus will provide its Orchard Power platform, enabling delivery of 1.5 gigawatt of on-site, firm power using natural gas and integrating both point-source and direct air capture to drive carbon-negative operations. Casper Carbon Capture will provide the necessary land, rights-of-way, and access to permitted carbon dioxide (CO₂) sequestration wells in Natrona and Converse Counties for the permanent storage of captured emissions.

The project expands on Prometheus Hyperscale’s footprint in Wyoming and Texas, including its Evanston flagship project—scaling toward 1 gigawatt-plus IT capacity with partnerships for low-carbon natural gas, nuclear small modular reactor (SMR) power, and organic flow battery systems—as well as Texas projects involving co-location of AI data centers with renewable and hybrid power systems. For the Casper campus, the companies anticipate a multi-phase buildout delivering IT load up to 1.5 gigawatt, supporting both short-term construction roles and ongoing technical positions.

“AI companies can’t wait years for power,” said Charles Cadieu, CEO and co-founder of Spiritus. “By partnering with Prometheus, we’re delivering firm capacity to meet the urgency the market demands. Orchard Power gives tenants reliable, affordable, carbon negative electricity at hyperscale, when and where it’s needed.”
