Salute has announced the introduction of a comprehensive operational service designed for direct-to-chip (DTC) liquid cooling in data centers. The service, which the company describes as an industry first, was introduced at the NVIDIA GTC event in Washington, DC. Salute is targeting hyperscale, colocation, and high-density artificial intelligence (AI) and high performance computing (HPC) data centers facing the operational risks presented by DTC liquid cooling.
Salute reports that several data center operators have already selected its DTC liquid operations service, including Applied Digital, Compass Datacenters, and SDC. The company claims its service model is now a central element in supporting AI operations for these customers.
DTC liquid cooling technology is increasingly used in AI/HPC environments due to higher rack power and thermal densities. Salute notes that DTC cooling brings risks, including equipment damage from temperature spikes during interruptions, liquid leaks posing operational and safety concerns, and potential revenue loss or service level agreement (SLA) penalties from downtime.
Salute’s DTC service includes:
- Custom operational model and design assessments for each facility
- Commissioning support to optimize as-built systems for AI/HPC needs
- A continually updated library of DTC liquid cooling best practices, drawing on collaborations with NVIDIA, cooling distribution unit manufacturers, chemistry suppliers, leak management vendors, original equipment manufacturers, and hyperscalers
- Comprehensive procedures for all DTC operations, including chemistry management, safety protocols, leak and risk management, and maintenance
- Training programs using classroom, e-learning, and lab-based certifications for operations staff working with liquid cooling systems
- Support services to help operators scale their teams and environments quickly
