Tekleen outlines full-flow filtration and dewatering approach for data center cooling-water reuse

Tekleen Automatic Filters has announced a full-flow water filtration and dewatering strategy aimed at reducing data center water consumption and wastewater discharge as scrutiny increases around cooling-water use. Tekleen says the approach combines cooling tower and chiller makeup-water filtration, cycles of concentration optimization, Point of Discharge filtration, and advanced dewatering to enable internal water reuse and support near-zero liquid discharge goals in mission-critical environments.

Tekleen says its automatic self-cleaning water filters remove suspended solids down to 2 microns before water reaches cooling towers, chillers, heat exchangers, and membrane systems. The company positions “full flow” filtration as continuous treatment of the entire water stream, and says its filters maintain uninterrupted flow during backwash to support uptime while reducing fouling and protecting heat-transfer efficiency across heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and process equipment.

For cooling towers, Tekleen says consistently removing suspended solids from cooling basins helps facilities increase cycles of concentration while maintaining conductivity control. Tekleen says higher cycles reduce the frequency and volume of cooling tower blowdown, which lowers freshwater makeup demand and decreases total water loss.

At the Point of Discharge, Tekleen says filtration removes suspended particles from blowdown and wastewater streams to prepare water for internal reuse or secondary treatment. Tekleen says its Advanced Dewatering Technique further processes backwash and blowdown streams to recover additional usable water before disposal, reducing wastewater volume and establishing a pathway toward near-zero liquid discharge for high-capacity data centers and industrial environments.

“Cooling tower performance is directly tied to cycles of concentration, conductivity control, and blowdown management,” said Dan Flanick, Chief Revenue Officer of Tekleen Automatic Filters. “When suspended solids are consistently removed through full flow filtration, operators can safely increase cycles, reduce blowdown volumes, and stabilize their water chemistry programs.” “By integrating full flow filtration with dewatering, we reduce wastewater generation while protecting cooling tower basins and downstream equipment.”
