AVAIO Digital has received final approval from the California Energy Commission for Project Perseus, its 76-acre data center development at Pittsburg Technology Park in Northern California. According to AVAIO Digital, this long-planned campus will deliver 99 megawatts (MW) of capacity by 2027, offering rare large-scale power availability in a region known for supply constraints.
Project Perseus is located 35 miles from San Francisco and 45 miles from Silicon Valley hubs such as Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View. The site is adjacent to major long-haul and metro fiber routes, supporting redundant, high-capacity connectivity options critical for hyperscale, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud deployments.
The campus is powered by a long-term agreement with Pittsburg Power Company, which AVAIO Digital claims will provide low-cost, stable electricity. The project is designed to scale in multiple 99 MW phases, with full entitlement for up to 500 MW as approved in the Pittsburg Technology Park Specific Plan. Current plans include access to seven adjacent 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission lines via Pittsburg Power Company.
For cooling, Project Perseus will utilize 100 percent recycled water supplied by Delta Diablo, enabling efficient high-density operations and, according to AVAIO Digital, delivering significant operating expense (OPEX) reductions compared to standard potable-water cooling systems. Municipal incentives and a predictable permitting process are also part of the development framework.
“The CEC’s approval underscores Project Perseus’ status as a truly unique platform in the Bay Area: an immediately available large-scale data center with the lowest power costs in the market and already zoned for substantial expansion — all attributes that remain exceptionally hard to find in today’s data center landscape,” said Mark McComiskey, CEO, AVAIO Digital.
