DeltaV automation platform unifies data center power and cooling control

Emerson has introduced the DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers, an integrated monitoring and control system aimed at AI-scale facilities where tight build schedules and fast-changing power and cooling loads put pressure on commissioning and operations.

Emerson describes the DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers as a unified automation layer that coordinates data center critical infrastructure across thermal, mechanical, and electrical subsystems, with real-time response to load changes. The platform is designed to replace point solutions and “complex mappings” by using a single control architecture starting at project design, with the goal of reducing engineering effort, simplifying integration, and creating consistency across commissioning, operations, and maintenance.

On the delivery side, Emerson says the platform can improve project schedules by decoupling hardware and software so teams can execute work in parallel, while standardizing both equipment-level and facility-wide control. That kind of parallelization is a practical feature for high-density builds, where controls integration and late-stage changes can become the critical path even when long-lead electrical and mechanical gear arrives on time.

For operations, the platform targets “precision control” for highly variable loads, pairing real-time monitoring with dynamic adjustment to changing thermal loads. Emerson also points to “industrial-grade reliability at scale,” with integrated control and visibility intended to help teams detect abnormal conditions earlier, respond faster, and maintain 24/7 operations.

The portfolio includes the DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) and DeltaV programmable logic controllers (PLCs), with the PLCs connecting to the DCS for system-wide process control. Emerson says both the DeltaV DCS and DeltaV PLCs incorporate context-specific AI capabilities intended to accelerate engineering workflows, provide advanced process control, and support integration of AI optimization models.

“Data center performance is no longer defined by individual components alone, but by how effectively critical systems work together,” said Nathan Pettus, president of Emerson’s process systems and solutions business. “The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers gives operators the unified visibility and coordinated control they need to commission projects predictably, operate reliably at scale and meet aggressive timelines.”
