Elevate acquires 150 MW Prospect Power battery storage to support Northern Virginia data center power demand

Elevate Renewables, an ArcLight portfolio company, has announced the acquisition of Prospect Power Storage, a 150 MW/600 MWh standalone battery energy storage project in Rockingham County near Northern Virginia’s “Data Center Alley,” from Swift Current Energy. Elevate says the project is under construction and is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2026, positioning it as new grid capacity near one of the highest-growth data center regions in the US.

Elevate reports that Prospect Power is the largest standalone battery storage asset in PJM Interconnection. The company says the system is fully contracted under a 15-year power purchase agreement with Dominion Energy Virginia, and is intended to support grid reliability and growing power demand across the Mid-Atlantic region.

“The acquisition of Prospect Power underscores our commitment to building the energy infrastructure required to ensure continuous power for data centers,” said Joshua Rogol, CEO of Elevate. “With its scale and strategic location within PJM, this project exemplifies the critical investments we are making to support the increased need for grid reliability and sustainability driven by growing power demand.”

Elevate frames the acquisition as part of a strategy to scale battery storage across PJM and other high-growth US power markets. As an example, the company points to its 2024 announcement of a 15 MW/60 MWh battery storage project at the Arthur Kill Power Station in Staten Island, New York, which Elevate says will be the largest battery storage installation in New York City upon completion.

“PJM is experiencing accelerating demand driven by AI, data center growth, and electrification,” said Rogol, CEO of Elevate. “Prospect Power will provide the fast-responding, flexible capacity needed to manage peak loads and improve overall grid performance.”
