GigaDevice expands 1.2V GD25UF SPI NOR Flash to 256Mb to boost AI servers and data center power efficiency

GigaDevice has announced an expanded density range for its GD25UF series 1.2 V ultra-low power SPI NOR Flash, extending the lineup from 8 Mb to 256 Mb. The company says the broader range targets storage needs from high-performance AI computing platforms to low-power, battery-operated devices, while aligning Flash supply voltage with 1.2 V system-on-chip (SoC) designs.

GigaDevice reports the GD25UF series operates from 1.14 V to 1.26 V, matching the shift of leading-edge SoCs and processors toward 1.2 V operation for energy efficiency. It says the parts are designed for direct power integration with 1.2 V SoCs, removing the need for level shifters or more complex power management; the company claims this can reduce peripheral components and bill-of-materials cost while avoiding power-conversion losses.

For data center and high-performance compute deployments, GigaDevice positions the higher densities around growing non-volatile storage needs in AI infrastructure. It cites use cases including code storage in hyperscale data center platforms, high-bandwidth memory interconnects such as Compute Express Link (CXL), and high-speed data transmission through fiber-optic transceivers, and says the new 256 Mb top density is intended to support AI inference efficiency and flexible system architectures.

GigaDevice also highlights smaller-footprint designs for space-constrained products, including Internet of Things (IoT) devices, wearables, and optical modules. It says the series scales down to 8 Mb and is available in ultra-compact wafer-level chip-scale packaging (WLCSP) to fit tight mechanical envelopes.

On interface and performance, GigaDevice says GD25UF supports Single, Dual, Quad, and Double Transfer Rate (DTR) Quad Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) modes, with up to 120 MHz clock in single transfer rate (STR) mode and 80 MHz in DTR mode, for up to 80 MB/s throughput. The company reports two operating modes (normal and low-power) and claims that versus traditional 1.8 V Flash, the approximately 33% lower operating voltage reduces power consumption by 50% to 70%.

For endurance and environmental specs, GigaDevice states the series supports 100,000 program and erase cycles and 20-year data retention. It lists operating temperature options of -40 C to 85 C, -40 C to 105 C, and -40 C to 125 C. The company says the full GD25UF series is in mass production and is offered in SOP8, WSON8, USON8, and WLCSP packages.
