IQM Quantum Computers has announced a purchase agreement with Telefónica and the Galician Supercomputing Center (CESGA) to provide two quantum computing systems for CESGA in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Under this agreement, IQM will supply a 54-qubit IQM Radiance system designed for integration into high-performance computing (HPC) environments, along with a 5-qubit IQM Spark system dedicated to education. The systems are scheduled for delivery by June 2026.
The 54-qubit Radiance system is engineered for seamless integration with advanced computing infrastructures, enabling CESGA to expand its computational capabilities. The 5-qubit Spark unit will serve educational purposes, supporting skill development in quantum technology. The installation will enable researchers and industry users to experiment with hybrid workflows combining quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and HPC resources.
CESGA will make the new quantum computers accessible to Spain’s scientific community and industrial sectors. This deployment will be CESGA’s first quantum computer installation and positions the center among other major European facilities integrating quantum technologies with existing HPC platforms, such as the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Germany, CSC in Finland, and CINECA in Italy.
IQM reports that the new quantum systems at CESGA will be deployed alongside the Finisterrae IV supercomputer and a new data storage platform, which together will meet advanced research and data service needs, including artificial intelligence workloads.
“Delivering production-grade quantum infrastructure into real HPC environments is central to IQM’s mission,” said Sylwia Barthel de Weydenthal, Chief Commercial Officer of IQM Quantum Computers. “By deploying our systems at CESGA, we are supporting the development of a practical quantum ecosystem in Spain and enabling researchers and industry users to begin meaningful experimentation with hybrid quantum-classical computing.”
“Quantum computing will become an important pillar of future digital infrastructure,” said Sergio Sánchez, CTIO Telefónica España. “Through this collaboration with IQM and CESGA, Telefónica is helping bring advanced computing capabilities closer to researchers and enterprises, while supporting Spain’s position in next-generation technologies.”
