Vantage Data Centers announces $15 billion investment in Wisconsin data center campus built with union labor

Vantage Data Centers has announced a partnership with the Wisconsin Building Trades Council to construct its previously announced Lighthouse data center campus in Port Washington, Wisconsin. According to Vantage Data Centers, this project represents a $15 billion-plus private investment and will require a peak workforce of over 4,000 skilled construction workers over a three-year period, relying on local union labor as much as possible.

The Lighthouse campus is designed to serve the rapidly growing needs of hyperscale and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Vantage Data Centers notes that the facility will be built using union workers and aims to position Wisconsin as a global hub for sustainable digital infrastructure. The construction scope will focus on hyperscale, cloud, and AI-ready data center environments, as specified in the announcement.

As part of this initiative, Vantage Data Centers pledges to work with labor partners to ensure contractors employ local union labor to the fullest extent possible throughout the project. The company also states that this project will deliver both immediate and long-term benefits to Port Washington and the wider community, enhancing local employment and economic impact.

This partnership specifically targets large-scale data center construction with advanced infrastructure requirements. Emily Pritzkow, executive director of Wisconsin Building Trades Council, said, “This pledge recognizes the importance of building complex digital infrastructure with the best skilled professionals who deliver projects safely, on time and to the highest quality standards,” adding that the project represents a “historic opportunity for Wisconsin workers to complete apprenticeships, support their families and invest in their communities.”

Simon Casey, chief delivery officer, North America, Vantage Data Centers, stated, “Vantage is proud to partner with Wisconsin’s union workers to build a once-in-a-generation, sustainable data center campus in Port Washington.” Casey added that collaboration with local officials and the community will support the project’s successful execution and long-term sustainability goals.
