Verizon has announced a new agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deploy long-haul, high-capacity fiber routes interconnecting AWS data center locations. Verizon reports that this infrastructure will deliver resilient, low-latency network paths intended to support increased demand for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads hosted on AWS cloud services.
According to Verizon, these new fiber links form part of its Verizon AI Connect initiative, supporting AWS in scaling secure and high-performance cloud-based AI deployments. Verizon states that its new fiber infrastructure aims to meet the needs of data centers handling the exponential data growth driven by generative AI, providing network resilience and performance for critical enterprise and hyperscale environments.
Target applications for this high-capacity fiber build are centered on hyperscale data center interconnection, supporting AI workloads and advanced cloud services. Verizon notes that the collaboration further strengthens its ongoing relationship with AWS, which includes previous joint projects such as private mobile edge computing solutions for enterprise customers.
“The next wave of innovation will be driven by generative AI, which requires a combination of secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and flexible, high-performance networking,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president, AWS Infrastructure Services. “By working with Verizon, AWS will enable high-performance network connections that ensure customers across every industry can build and deliver compelling, secure, and reliable AI applications at scale. This collaboration builds on our long-standing commitment to provide customers with the most secure, powerful, and efficient cloud infrastructure available today.”
Verizon also highlights that the agreement complements its internal adoption of AWS as a preferred public cloud provider for its broader digital transformation efforts, and follows collaborations serving sectors from manufacturing to healthcare and retail.
