CoreSite completes major data center power and infrastructure upgrade at One Wilshire for enhanced connectivity and uptime

CoreSite, an American Tower company, has completed a significant infrastructure upgrade at One Wilshire in downtown Los Angeles, where it operates its LA1 data center. The project included the installation of a new enterprise-class generator plant and upgrades to the entire electrical system supporting the facility, which is known as a high-density carrier hotel hosting more than 300 networks and handling a major share of trans-Pacific data traffic.

The company reports that the new generator plant and upgraded systems are designed to provide the redundancy needed to support critical digital interconnection. One Wilshire remains a hub for data center and network interconnection across the West Coast, and this update aims to support expanding hybrid information technology (IT) environments and meet evolving operational requirements.

CoreSite notes that the LA1 riser project took place in an environment described as one of the most risk-sensitive areas in the network ecosystem. Its team executed system upgrades, including deploying new switchgear and equipment throughout the building, while maintaining continuous operations and customer uptime.

According to Joe Liccardo, Vice President of Data Center Operations at CoreSite, “What I’m most proud of with the LA1 Riser Project is that, despite the high risk and sensitive environment, we were able to maintain a 100% uptime for all our clients,” said Joe Liccardo, Vice President of Data Center Operations at CoreSite. “When you’re working on one of the world’s most interconnected buildings and there isn’t a single negative impact to customer service – that’s really impressive.”

CoreSite identifies its LA1 facility at One Wilshire as providing carrier hotel interconnection, while its Los Angeles campus also includes LA2 and LA3 data centers designed for artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-density workloads. The company states that LA3 is certified as part of the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, and is engineered for scalable, high-performance infrastructure for workloads such as AI and machine learning.
