Lumen Technologies has announced that it now serves more than 1,000 customers on its Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform, which began rolling out at the end of 2023. The NaaS suite is positioned as a solution for the increasing need for rapid, high-capacity, and programmable enterprise connectivity driven by artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, including those in data center environments.
For security, the Internet On-Demand service includes automated multi-layered Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection and threat intelligence driven by Black Lotus Labs to block malicious traffic before it reaches the network edge.
The platform is underpinned by Lumen’s network, which includes approximately 163,000 on-net buildings and 340,000 global fiber route miles. Lumen has announced ongoing investments to increase its intercity fiber footprint to 47 million miles and upgrade backbone capacities beyond 100 gigabits per second (100G) by the end of 2028, targeting improved low-latency and high-capacity connectivity for data centers, edge, and cloud infrastructure.
According to Lumen, notable enterprises using the NaaS platform include Best Buy, C3Aero, Churchill Downs Racetrack, Clearway Energy Group, Columbia Sportswear Company, Hanmi Bank, IVision, Foot Locker, MTN Satellite Communications, and Pac-12 Enterprises. These organizations report applications of the platform for cloud migration, Software as a Service (SaaS) integration, and enabling connectivity for large-scale live events.
“By partnering with Lumen, C3Aero was able to deploy internet services quickly and efficiently, allowing us to focus on our core business of providing cutting-edge technology solutions to the aviation industry,” said John Speranza, Founder and CEO, C3Aero.
“With Network-as-a-Service technology, we can bring high-capacity, secure connections online in minutes to power everything from media coverage to vendor support and guest Wi-Fi,” said Mike Wood, Senior IT Director, Churchill Downs Racetrack. “It’s that kind of behind-the-scenes innovation that ensures Derby Week runs smoothly and delivers unforgettable experiences to fans in the stands and around the globe.”
“Partnering with Lumen and leveraging their NaaS experience has significantly boosted our DRaaS/BaaS capabilities. The dynamic bandwidth provisioning and effortless service initiation enable us to provide superior customer service,” said Clint St. Romain, Architect, Managed Services, IVision.
