Reflect Scientific says its liquid nitrogen temperature control technology is now available for AI data center applications, targeting high-density compute environments where thermal management and water use are growing constraints. The company is pitching the approach as an alternative to conventional cooling systems in AI-focused facilities.
Reflect described the technology as liquid nitrogen-based temperature control designed to operate without conventional water-based cooling systems and without the mechanical equipment typically associated with traditional approaches. The company highlighted potential benefits that include reduced water consumption and low-noise operation, alongside a different method for managing heat in next-generation AI data centers.
For data center engineers, the practical implication is straightforward: any cooling concept that removes—or sharply reduces—water-based infrastructure changes the facility trade space, from water availability and treatment to mechanical plant footprint and acoustics. But “liquid nitrogen cooling” spans a wide range of possible implementations, and Reflect didn’t provide technical details such as operating temperatures at the load, heat removal capacity, or how the system interfaces with IT hardware.
Commercially, Reflect said it has received an inquiry about the liquid nitrogen cooling technology from a party located in the Western US. The company characterized that as early-stage interest and not an order or agreement.
“Our liquid nitrogen temperature control technology represents a different approach to cooling AI data centers,” said Kim Boyce, CEO of Reflect Scientific. Boyce added that the company has “more than 20 years of experience designing and manufacturing liquid nitrogen cooling systems,” and that it plans to work with “data center developers, operators, and technology partners” evaluating next-generation cooling solutions.
