Hydrogrid AWG pilot opens for data centers ahead of Q3 2027 shipments

Aquaria has opened applications for a 2027 pilot of Hydrogrid, a modular on-site water supply system for data centers based on atmospheric water generation (AWG). The idea is to provide a water source made from air that can be added in phases as a campus is built, reducing dependence on aquifers and municipal water.

Hydrogrid is built around containerized units. Each unit is housed in a 40-foot container and produces up to 5,300 gallons of water per day, then connects into a site’s existing water storage and treatment systems. Aquaria describes the deployment model as modular: units sit on a concrete pad, are commissioned in weeks, and are intended to integrate without changing how the facility is cooled.

At the larger end, Aquaria specifies a 50-unit field producing up to 265,000 gallons per day on less than four acres. For data center engineering teams, that footprint-per-output number is the first sanity check: siting, pad design, piping runs into existing storage and treatment, and operational plans all become part of the water strategy, not just the cooling plant design.

Brian Sheng, Aquaria’s co-founder and CEO, tied the pilot to entitlement and schedule pressure: “Water is now a schedule risk and an approval risk. Hydrogrid lets developers bring their own water infrastructure with them, scale it with construction, and take that risk off the table.”

Aquaria says the first Hydrogrid units will ship in Q3 2027, with pilot partners receiving first access. Selected partners will also receive site-specific water production modeling and work with Aquaria to develop a reference project and operating data for the technology.

Community placement program using Hydropack

Alongside the Hydrogrid pilot, Aquaria is launching a community engagement program built around Hydropack water generators placed near data center campuses, including at homes and public buildings such as schools, fire stations, and community centers. Aquaria rates Hydropack output at up to 265 gallons of water per day, and says Hydropacks can be installed in weeks while drawing nothing from local wells or water utilities.

Aquaria says Hydrogrid is based on the same core module as Hydropack, with more than 300 modules deployed across US homes, farms, ranches, and off-grid sites. “Communities want to know what happens to their water when a data center arrives,” Sheng said. “Developers can now point to a new water source on their site and in the community.”

On the engineering side, AWG doesn’t eliminate water planning, it shifts it. If a data center team is evaluating Hydrogrid, the practical questions will be around modeled production at the specific site, integration into existing storage and treatment, and how on-site generated water is verified and managed operationally.
