Avnos launches factory-built HDAC modules for data centers and CO₂ capture

Avnos has introduced the Avnos HDAC Module, its first standardized, factory-built product family for Hybrid Direct Air Capture (HDAC). The company says the shift to factory-built modules is aimed at scaling deployments across multiple infrastructure use cases, including data centers.

The Avnos HDAC Module platform launches in three configurations: a Data Center Module, a Carbon Storage Module, and an eFuels Module. For data centers, Avnos says its HDAC Data Center Modules use low-grade waste heat to provide cooling support, produce clean water on site, and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere using a single platform. For carbon storage, the company says HDAC Carbon Storage Modules capture CO₂ from ambient air and output a “clean, high-purity CO₂ stream” intended for permanent geologic storage, with modules configured for installation near Class VI wells and regional storage hubs. For fuels, Avnos says its HDAC eFuels Modules provide high-purity atmospheric CO₂ and clean water as feedstocks for sustainable aviation fuel, methanol, and other synthesis pathways.

For data center operators, the practical angle is the integration model: Avnos is tying carbon removal and on-site water production to available low-grade heat, rather than treating them as separate utilities-scale projects. But the engineering reality is that “cooling support” can mean a lot of things, and project fit will hinge on site specifics, available waste-heat profiles, and how the module interfaces with existing cooling and water systems.

Avnos says each module is built to a standardized design, factory-built and factory-tested before shipping, and configured for international freight to reduce customer deployment time and field work.

“We now have a standardized product platform that can serve customers across multiple infrastructure markets, from data centers to carbon storage and eFuels,” said Will Kain, Founder and CEO of Avnos. “Moving to factory-built HDAC Modules gives us the foundation to grow with our customers, lower the cost of delivering infrastructure, and deploy at a significantly greater scale.”

The first Avnos HDAC Carbon Storage Modules are slated to go to Project Cedar, which Avnos describes as its largest deployment to date. Avnos says Cedar will deploy four modules capable of capturing 3,000 tonnes of CO₂ and producing more than 6,000 tonnes of clean water annually. Separately, Avnos says Project Brighton in Bridgewater, New Jersey, entered operations earlier this month and is funded by the US Office of Naval Research to support work piloting Direct Air Capture-sourced CO₂ to produce sustainable aviation fuel.
