TCDC partners with Mawgan Capital to deliver low-carbon power supply for Ector County AI data center campus

New Era Energy and Digital has announced that its joint venture with Sharon AI, Texas Critical Data Centers, has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Mawgan Capital to deploy Mawgan Capital’s Digital Zero Power solution for a planned data center campus in Ector County, Texas. According to New Era Energy and Digital, Mawgan Capital will finance and deliver a behind-the-meter, natural gas-based power generation system as part of the Digital Zero Power offering, with start of construction and integration expected later in 2024 and full commissioning targeted within 18 months.

The Digital Zero Power system is described by Mawgan Capital as an end-to-end decarbonization solution for the supply chain. The platform incorporates low carbon intensity gas certificates and carbon credits, and is powered by Context Labs’ Context AI Enterprise Carbon Management Platform, which enables quantification and validation of the carbon footprint at the data center campus. According to the announcement, this approach aims to deliver highly reliable power, reduce dependence on the Texas grid, and support claims of a lower-carbon footprint for the data center.

Once operational, the on-site generation system is expected to serve as the energy backbone of the campus, designed to support high-performance, AI-optimized data center operations. The intended target market is advanced compute workloads for data centers, particularly those requiring verifiable sustainability and power resilience.

E. Will Gray II, CEO of New Era Energy and Digital, commented, “The partnership with Mawgan Capital allows us to deliver verified, low zero-carbon power to our on-site customers supporting their sustainability goals while providing world-class power reliability in West Texas.”

Wolf Schubert, CEO of Sharon AI, stated, “Our collaboration with Mawgan Capital should enhance the viability of the project and creates a world-class decarbonized AI data center. This partnership could position TCDC at the forefront of sustainable digital infrastructure development in West Texas and set a new benchmark for energy-resilient data center campuses globally.”

Dan Harple, CEO of Context Labs, added, “It’s critical that developers lead the charge in managing the climate impact of growing AI infrastructure. Context Labs delivers the AI-enabled data-driven, empirical rigor required to accurately and transparently quantify an enterprise’s carbon performance. This collaboration with TCDC and Mawgan Capital demonstrates how operators, market-makers, and technology providers can effectively accelerate decarbonization in an increasingly energy-intensive world.”
