Scala secures approval for Tamboré data center campus master plan in Barueri

Scala Data Centers has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Municipality of Barueri for the approval of the master plan for its Tamboré Campus. According to Scala, this development solidifies Tamboré as the largest and most advanced data center campus in Latin America and sets the stage for further urban development in the region.

The approved plan outlines infrastructure and mobility upgrades in the campus vicinity, including investments to improve road infrastructure, enhance traffic flow, modernize roadways, and increase safety. These initiatives are designed to benefit local residents, workers, and the broader community in Barueri.

The Tamboré Campus operates seven data centers with additional facilities under construction, reporting more than 120 MW of active capacity and supported by three power substations. Scala claims the fully developed campus will reach 600 MW total capacity across 17 data centers. The campus is located alongside the Rodoanel highway in Greater São Paulo’s hyperconnected region.

From a technical perspective, Scala reports Tamboré is powered by 100% renewable energy, secured via long-term Power Purchase Agreements that support the development of new wind and solar farms. Operational efficiency is emphasized, with Scala achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35—significantly below the global average of approximately 1.55—using advanced liquid cooling systems. The company also states it employs closed-loop cooling systems that eliminate the use of groundwater or aquifers.

The project marks an investment of over R$ 10 billion and establishes the campus as a strategic hub for regional digital infrastructure, with a roadmap that anticipates positioning Tamboré among the 10 largest data center campuses globally. Scala notes the development is structured to support the operational requirements of the Artificial Intelligence era and deliver economic and employment benefits to the region.

“The approval of Scala’s Tamboré Campus master plan is a historic milestone that reaffirms Barueri’s position as a world-class hub for innovation and technology,” said José Roberto “Beto” Piteri, Mayor of Barueri. “This partnership goes far beyond digital infrastructure, it represents an integrated investment in our city, bringing urban improvements, the creation of skilled jobs, and the promotion of sustainable economic growth that will directly benefit our community.”
