Wasabi deploys KIOXIA CM and CD Series NVMe SSDs to enhance cloud storage performance

KIOXIA America has announced its collaboration with Wasabi Technologies, providing CM and CD Series NVMe SSDs to upgrade performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in Wasabi’s Hot Cloud Storage Service. Since 2022, Wasabi has utilized KIOXIA’s SAS and NVMe SSDs, now expanding the deployment of enterprise-grade and data center-class NVMe drives to support more demanding cloud infrastructure workloads.

Wasabi’s Hot Cloud Storage offers affordable, high-performance cloud object storage targeted at small to enterprise-level organizations, including institutions in state, local, and higher education sectors. Integrating KIOXIA’s CM7 and CD8 NVMe SSDs significantly boosts storage read/write speeds and reduces latency in Wasabi’s cloud data centers, providing scalability and optimized economics needed for widespread deployment.

The KIOXIA CM7 Series SSDs comply with PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications and are available in 2.5-inch (U2) and E3.S form factors, offering capacities from 1.6 terabytes (TB) to 30.72 TB. Key features include dual and single-port configurations and read-intensive to mixed-use endurance ratings, addressing high-demand workloads such as artificial intelligence, online transaction processing databases, high-performance computing, and data warehousing.

Additionally, Wasabi is deploying the KIOXIA CD8 Series, designed specifically for hyperscale data centers and enterprises requiring attached server storage. Compliant with PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications, CD8 Series drives provide up to 15.36 TB in the 2.5-inch (U2) form factor and double bandwidth per lane compared to PCIe 3.0 SSDs—from 8 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) to 16 GT/s. Security features include sanitize instant erase (SIE) and self-encrypted drive (SED) options.

“Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage brings affordable cloud object storage to small, mid-market and enterprise customers including hundreds of state, local and higher education customers,” said Pramod Kalyanasundaram, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Operations for Wasabi Technologies. “We highly value our technical and business relationship with KIOXIA and rely on their SSDs to deliver high performance and reliability for our robust cloud infrastructure.”
