Camfil launches Energy Matters video series for data center energy efficiency

Camfil USA has introduced a technical video series, Energy Matters, on its YouTube channel, focusing on the relationship between air filtration and energy consumption in data centers and other mission-critical facilities. The series, hosted by indoor air quality specialist Mark Davidson, analyzes air filtration system designs, predictive modeling, and long-term operational data to offer practical strategies for managing HVAC power use and costs.

Each concise episode examines energy and filtration concepts directly impacting operational budgets. Featured topics include the effects of rising artificial intelligence workloads on data center electricity demand, the role of HVAC pressure drop in driving energy costs, the benefits of focusing on average rather than initial filter pressure drop, and identifying cost-effective filter models using dirt loading curves. Camfil says the series also explores how predictive software can estimate months of filter performance in minutes and compares five-year cost projections for economy versus premium filters.

Camfil highlights its Life Cycle Costing (LCC) Software, designed to model the long-term impact of filter selection by forecasting how filters accumulate particulate over time and affect air resistance and downstream energy use. Davidson claims “Air filters are far more complex and influential over operational costs than you may have imagined,” said Mark Davidson, Manager of Marketing and Technical Materials at Camfil. “Camfil’s LCC software draws on raw data to predict how a filter will accumulate dirt and how this affects airflow resistance and the subsequent impact on electrical consumption. This gives facility managers overseeing data centers a degree of control over energy costs that they may not have realized was ever possible.”

The Energy Matters series draws on two decades of Camfil’s real-world filtration performance data and emphasizes a data-driven approach to improving both sustainability and reliability for facility managers at data centers. The video series is currently available on the Camfil USA YouTube Channel.
