Flex has expanded its prefabricated modular data center portfolio with new “AI Modules” that combine power, compute, and liquid cooling in factory-built systems aimed at faster AI factory deployments. Flex says the approach can cut deployment timelines by up to 50% versus traditional construction.
The new Axiom AI Modules integrate three main building blocks: an 800 VDC Power Rack for conversion and distribution in 800 VDC AI infrastructure, cooling distribution units (CDUs) for liquid cooling, and high-density IT racks that integrate AI servers, networking, and high-speed interconnects.
For operators trying to stand up high-density AI capacity, the practical appeal of this kind of prefab is less about any single component and more about schedule risk. Moving integration, assembly, and testing into a controlled factory environment can reduce the amount of critical-path work that has to happen on-site, especially when power, liquid, and IT bring-up are tightly coupled.
Flex says the modules are assembled, integrated, and tested in parallel with site development to reduce on-site complexity and bring AI capacity online faster. “Meeting the demands of AI infrastructure at scale requires more than incremental improvements. It requires rethinking how power, compute and cooling work together as a system,” said Chris Butler, expected Chief Technology and Strategy Officer at Axiom.
The expanded portfolio sits within Flex’s Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment, which Flex plans to separate into Axiom Solutions International in the first quarter of calendar 2027. Flex also says it is building prefabricated modular solutions for hyperscalers and has more than three million square feet of dedicated data center infrastructure manufacturing capacity in the US.
