Cirrus Logic has announced an expansion of its relationship with GlobalFoundries, focusing on next-generation chip technologies. The collaboration targets the development and commercialization of advanced Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) process technology—integrating analog, digital, and power management capabilities onto a single chip. These technologies will be manufactured at GlobalFoundries’ facility in Malta, New York, adding a US-based production option to its current locations in Singapore and Germany.
The BCD developments are designed to increase power efficiency and reduce device footprints in applications ranging from consumer to industrial electronics. Cirrus Logic says this expanded partnership will support delivery of mixed-signal products to its primary markets and improve the resilience and geographic diversity of its supply chain.
Additionally, Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries are working on accelerating innovation around Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology at GlobalFoundries’ Essex Junction, Vermont facility. GlobalFoundries says its GaN-on-silicon platform provides high power density and can manage high voltages, offering efficiency and advanced power management for consumer and industrial uses. This initiative is expected to broaden Cirrus Logic’s mixed-signal and power technology portfolio.
