Vertiv expands data center rack and cabinet solutions with acquisition of Great Lakes Data Racks & Cabinets

Vertiv has completed its acquisition of the Great Lakes Data Racks and Cabinets group for approximately $200 million, expanding its offering of high-density integrated infrastructure for data centers and other critical digital environments.

Vertiv reports that adding Great Lakes brings expanded capabilities in designing and manufacturing both standard and custom racks, integrated and seismic-rated cabinets, and improved cable management. These solutions are intended for white space applications in data centers, including both retrofit and greenfield projects. The company states that the new combined portfolio will support greater scalability for artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing workloads, providing factory-integrated cabinets that can include Vertiv power and cooling systems.

Great Lakes, founded in 1985 and headquartered in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, operates manufacturing and assembly facilities in the US and Europe. According to Vertiv, the acquisition is expected to streamline infrastructure sourcing and speed deployment with pre-engineered solutions, benefiting data center operations with enhanced operational efficiency and comprehensive global services support.

Gio Albertazzi, Chief Executive Officer at Vertiv, is quoted as saying, “We are pleased to officially welcome the Great Lakes team to Vertiv and begin innovating new white space solutions,” He adds, “Great Lakes brings exceptional talent and capabilities that will enhance our ability to deliver comprehensive infrastructure solutions, furthering Vertiv’s capabilities to customize at scale and configure at speed for AI and high-density computing environments.”
