CleanArc expands Virginia data center campus to 900 MW hyperscale capacity

CleanArc Data Centers has announced the acquisition of 87.5 additional acres adjacent to its VA1 campus in Virginia. This strategic purchase increases the planned critical power capacity of the campus from 600 megawatts (MW) to nearly 1 gigawatt (GW), supporting demand for large-scale and sustainability-focused digital infrastructure.

The expanded site will be developed in three 300 MW phases. CleanArc reports that the first 300 MW of capacity is slated to come online in the first quarter of 2027, with the second 300 MW targeted for 2030. The newly-acquired land enables the addition of a third 300 MW tranche with delivery projected between 2033 and 2035. The company says this added capacity will deliver robust redundancy and resilience for customers with hyperscale requirements.

Data center operators and technology vendors focused on hyperscale deployments are the primary target for this expansion, which emphasizes infrastructure scalability and support for high-density, mission-critical workloads.

“Securing this additional land and substantially increasing our planned capacity positions CleanArc to meet the needs of the most demanding hyperscalers,” said James Trout, Founder and CEO of CleanArc Data Centers. “We’re ensuring our customers have the infrastructure they need to grow, innovate, and operate without limits today and well into the future. Working closely with Caroline County, this expansion will support our customers’ growth while reinforcing our dedication to sustainability and making a positive, lasting impact on the local community.”

CleanArc has scheduled the groundbreaking for the VA1 project for the fourth quarter of 2025.
