ON.energy announces 5 GW transformer agreement for AI data center deployments

ON.energy has announced a 5 gigawatt transformer supply agreement to support the deployment of its grid-safe, medium-voltage uninterruptible power supply (UPS) infrastructure for hyperscale data centers and renewable energy projects in the United States. According to ON.energy, this equipment procurement will enable the rapid rollout of its AI UPS technology at large-scale data center campuses beginning in 2026.

The company reports that its AI UPS systems are designed for grid-connected and fully behind-the-meter data center campuses. ON.energy selected Prolec GE to manufacture and deliver three-phase pad-mount transformers built specifically for its medium-voltage architecture. These transformers will be integrated into ON.energy’s technology stack to help stabilize high-density AI workloads, enforce controlled ramp rates, and protect both data centers and the grid against voltage disturbances.

ON.energy notes that US data center power demand is projected to reach tens of gigawatts in the current decade, with AI clusters representing some of the fastest-ramping and highest-density loads for the power grid. The company states that this project marks a significant advancement in the creation of grid-stable, AI-ready data center systems capable of supporting predictable interconnections and addressing fast load changes.

“AI data centers are becoming the largest and most dynamic electrical loads in the world. To deploy them responsibly at scale, we need partners who can deliver not only at volume but at the highest standard of quality,” said Dax Kepshire, President of ON.energy’s Data Center division. “This agreement ensures we have the infrastructure needed to continue deploying grid-safe data centers at the pace the market requires.”

ON.energy’s systems are targeted for hyperscale operators seeking to optimize grid integration and resilience for mission-critical facilities. The company also develops solutions for industrial, manufacturing, and energy infrastructure projects.
