Qualcomm completes Alphawave acquisition to boost data center connectivity

Qualcomm has announced the completion of its acquisition of Alphawave IP Group, also known as Alphawave Semi, ahead of the originally projected timeline. This move is intended to strengthen Qualcomm’s position in data center technology by adding Alphawave Semi’s high-speed connectivity solutions to its expanding portfolio. As part of the integration, Tony Pialis, CEO and co-founder of Alphawave Semi, will lead Qualcomm’s data center business.

According to Qualcomm, Alphawave Semi specializes in high-speed wired connectivity, delivering custom silicon, connectivity products, and chiplets designed to enable faster and more reliable data transfer. These solutions emphasize high performance while reducing power consumption—attributes critical for next-generation data centers. Alphawave Semi’s products support core infrastructure for data centers and are intended to address requirements in artificial intelligence, data networking, and data storage applications.

Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, stated, “Alphawave Semi’s expertise in high-speed connectivity technologies complements our Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors,” and continued, “The addition of Alphawave’s technologies will strengthen our platforms and optimize performance for next-generation AI data centers.”

Qualcomm says the acquisition offers the potential to advance both its compute and AI platforms for future data center deployments, emphasizing scalable, energy-efficient solutions.
