Generac buys Sussex, Wisconsin facility to scale data center backup-power generator manufacturing

Generac has announced the acquisition of a new manufacturing facility in Sussex, Wisconsin, aimed at expanding capacity for its Commercial and Industrial (C&I) products. Generac says the site will increase manufacturing capacity and operational flexibility to support growing demand for large-scale backup-power generators and energy solutions, including demand from data centers.

The Sussex facility adds to Generac’s C&I manufacturing expansion in Wisconsin, alongside its “state-of-the-art” plant in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and expanded operations in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Generac attributes the expansion to strong year-over-year growth in its C&I products and says it is scaling capacity to meet rising backup-power demand.

Generac links the Sussex facility to its push into the data center market following the addition of “large-megawatt generators” to its global product portfolio. It reports significant customer interest from data centers since that product-line expansion, and says its order backlog doubled, as disclosed on the company’s third-quarter earnings call in October.

Beyond data centers, Generac says the additional Sussex capacity will support other backup-power verticals that require large-megawatt generators, including healthcare, hospitality, wastewater, water utility, and heavy industrial plants. Generac says the Sussex site is expected to add over 100 new manufacturing positions when it opens in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Generac also reports an international C&I manufacturing footprint of nine manufacturing facilities in Mexico and across Europe, Asia, and South America.
