800G DCI muxponder aggregates 100GbE and 400GbE into 3.2 Tb/s

FS has added an 800G option to its data center interconnect lineup with the D7070 Series Integrated 800G Muxponder, targeting data center, metro, and regional DCI builds tied to AI and cloud traffic growth. The D7070 is a 1U platform designed to aggregate lower-rate client services onto 800G coherent wavelengths.

FS describes the D7070 as a low-power, high-reliability system that aggregates 100GbE and 400GbE services onto four 800G coherent wavelengths for 3.2 Tb/s of total capacity. On the client side, it supports 100G QSFP28 and 400G QSFP112 pluggables, and on the line side it supports 800G CFP2-DCO coherent line pluggables.

The platform also includes what FS calls an open software architecture with standardized management interfaces via WebGUI and CLI, with the goal of integrating with third-party network management systems and simplifying multivendor operations.

For DCI engineers, the practical angle is straightforward: aggregating multiple 100G and 400G services onto 800G coherent wavelengths is a way to push more capacity through constrained fiber routes while keeping a familiar 1U appliance footprint. But hitting the operational win FS is aiming for depends on how cleanly the muxponder’s management model fits into existing NMS workflows and how the optics choices (QSFP28, QSFP112, and CFP2-DCO) map to the site’s sparing and standardization strategy.

“As AI and cloud workloads accelerate inter-site traffic growth, customers need DCI networks that can scale with demand while maximizing existing infrastructure,” said Bener Peng, Product R&D Manager at FS.

Alongside the new 800G system, FS said its broader DCI portfolio spans 100G to 800G and supports client services across Ethernet, OTN, SONET/SDH, and Fibre Channel. FS groups its DCI offerings into five solution paths: a 100G point-to-point option built on the D5110 Series (links up to 120 km), a 200G OTN platform in the D710 Series with AES-256 Layer-1 encryption, a 1U 400G short-reach option in the D6000 Series supporting 400G ZR/ZR+ optics, a 400G medium- and long-haul option in the D7000 Series with up to 19.2 Tb/s per fiber pair, and the new 800G DCI path anchored by the D7070 Series and an FS 800G ZR Tunable DWDM CFP2 DCO coherent module.
