Addionics and PNT Materials target AI data center growth with new prismatic LFP cell collaboration

Addionics, a manufacturer of three-dimensional (3D) Smart Current Collector technology, and PNT Materials, a Korea-based battery materials and equipment company, have announced a joint initiative to develop, manufacture, and commercialize prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for the energy storage systems (ESS) market. The companies state that this partnership combines Addionics’ 3D current collector platform with PNT’s prismatic cell manufacturing capabilities. This new focus aims to deliver cost-effective, high-performance LFP cell solutions that address energy demands in AI data centers and utility-scale storage.

The collaboration is designed to serve the specific needs of hyperscale data centers, which face rising energy usage due to the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud applications. According to Addionics and PNT Materials, prismatic LFP technology developed through this partnership will support reliable, scalable ESS infrastructure as data centers, renewable energy projects, and grid storage expand globally.

The LFP cell platform will utilize Addionics’ porous 3D Smart Current Collectors, which are claimed to increase capacity, improve safety, reduce charging times, and extend battery lifespan. The companies also note that these current collectors are compatible with existing battery manufacturing lines. PNT Materials is contributing its manufacturing process knowledge and expertise in advanced battery materials and coating technologies to enable commercial-scale production.

Dr. Moshiel Biton, CEO and Co-founder of Addionics, stated, “AI data centers are emerging as one of the biggest energy consumers in the world. By combining our 3D Current Collector technology with PNT’s manufacturing excellence, we can deliver cost-effective, high-performance LFP cells that help power the AI revolution and support the broader transition to clean energy.”

DKichun Kong, CEO of PNT Materials, said, “This partnership combines Addionics’ breakthrough battery architecture with PNT’s manufacturing expertise to create a strong, scalable platform for the growing energy storage market.” Kong added, “Together, we can deliver reliable, cost-effective LFP prismatic cells that meet the demands of a rapidly electrifying and AI-driven world.”

The joint venture plans to prioritize cost reduction, manufacturability, and scalability, while seeking new commercialization channels across the data center, renewable energy, and grid-scale storage sectors.
