Diodes has launched API772x dual-channel digital isolators for data center power supplies

Diodes has announced the RobustISO API772x series, a family of dual-channel digital isolators designed to provide reinforced or basic isolation for digital signals in high-voltage systems. Diodes positions the devices for “critical applications,” including data center power supplies, alongside industrial automation and new energy power systems.

Per Diodes, the API772x meets isolation requirements across standards including VDE, UL, and CQC. The devices are rated for 5,000 V RMS isolation for one minute per UL 1577, and 8,000 V PK isolation per DIN EN IEC 60747-17 (VDE 0884-17), with a maximum surge isolation voltage of 12,800 V PK. Diodes claims this “represents a significant differentiation” because it cites a “higher breakdown voltage exceeding 12 kV, compared to less than 10 kV for comparable products.”

The series uses a capacitive isolation barrier with thickness greater than 25 µm, which Diodes says is predicted to provide an operational lifetime of over 40 years, based on the company’s isolation reliability calculations. Diodes attributes the longevity to an ON-OFF keying (OOK) modulation scheme that transfers digital data across the capacitive barrier.

For signal integrity in noisy power environments, Diodes says the parts support data rates up to 100 Mbps and provide strong electromagnetic immunity with a minimum 150 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI). The company also reports low emissions and describes the CMTI performance as important for reliable transmission in electrically noisy environments.

Diodes reports the API772x operates from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and typically draws 2.1 mA per channel at 1 Mbps. Typical propagation delay is listed as 11 ns. The family supports multiple channel-direction configurations and default output levels: API7720 has both channels in the same direction, while API7721 and API7722 have channels in opposite directions; devices with an “F” suffix default low, and devices without an “F” default high. The parts ship in an SO-8W (Type CJ) package, with pricing starting at $0.46 in 1,000-piece quantities.
