Sensata Technologies has launched its FL Series ultrasonic flow sensors for liquid cooling systems in data centers and other industrial environments. The FL Series Ultrasonic Flow Sensors are designed to provide continuous visibility into coolant flow for thermal management, with support for flow rates up to 400 liters per minute.
The FL Series is a non-intrusive sensor design intended to monitor coolant flow without adding moving parts to the loop. Sensata lists flow measurement accuracy of up to ±1% of full scale, an IP65-rated enclosure, and low pressure drop. The sensors provide digital and analog outputs intended to integrate with PLCs and building management systems, positioning them for use in controls stacks that already manage CDUs, chiller plants, and facility HVAC.

For operators building out liquid-cooled AI infrastructure, flow instrumentation is one of the simplest ways to catch problems early. Too little flow can quickly turn into temperature excursions at the cold plate or heat exchanger, while excessive flow can push pump power up and erode overall cooling efficiency. A clamp-on-style, non-intrusive approach can also be operationally attractive when uptime constraints make it hard to break into a loop for inline metering.
Sensata targets the FL Series at primary and secondary cooling loops, including CDUs, chillers, HVAC systems, and other industrial cooling equipment. The platform is compatible with deionized water and glycol mixtures, and Sensata says customers can choose housing materials, connection types, and communication protocols. Integrated temperature sensing is offered as an option.
The sensing method is ultrasonic, which Sensata says supports stable measurements across varying coolant conditions, including the presence of bubbles. Alice Martins, EVP and President of Industrials at Sensata Technologies, said, “The FL Series builds on that broader portfolio, giving customers reliable flow data to help them manage cooling performance and keep critical systems operating reliably.”
