Flexential upgrades private backbone to 400 Gbps, adds 100 Gbps ports

Flexential has upgraded its private network backbone to 400 Gbps in several major US metro markets, expanding the capacity behind its connectivity services and enabling customers to order native 100 Gbps access ports.

The phased rollout spans 15 existing Flexential data centers in Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, and Portland–Hillsboro, Oregon. Flexential ties the upgrade to demand from AI training and inference workloads, large-scale data replication, and hybrid multi-cloud architectures that can outgrow legacy 10 Gbps environments. The company also says customers can expand to 100 Gbps on a single port, with burstable options to increase capacity as requirements change.

For data center operators and network architects, the practical win is fewer bandwidth “step functions.” Moving from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps access changes what’s feasible for east-west traffic between facilities, especially when replication windows are tight or when AI pipelines are pushing large datasets across regions.

The 400 Gbps infrastructure increases the performance ceiling for connectivity services across the FlexAnywhere Platform, including Interconnection Mesh, Data Center Interconnect, and IP Bandwidth. In the same markets, Flexential says Flexential Fabric customers can provision additional capacity in less than 90 minutes without traditional order tickets or extended deployment cycles.

Flexential also says native 100 Gbps connectivity into major carrier hotels is intended to give customers direct access to dense carrier and cloud ecosystems, while reducing dependence on third-party networks. For organizations connecting to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle, the company says dedicated throughput can avoid congested public peering points.

The upgrade is being delivered through Flexential Fabric, which Flexential describes as its next-generation networking solution launched in 2024. As part of the effort, Flexential says it is introducing new services, streamlined IP migration capabilities from legacy platforms, and additional features aimed at simplifying connectivity and operational flexibility.

“Our customers need to move data at scale between facilities, into cloud environments, and across regions without waiting months for provisioning or stitching together third-party connections,” said Sam Rudek, COO of Flexential.

Flexential said additional markets will receive the 400 Gbps network upgrade early next year.
