Gemtek introduces 800G LPO transceiver for AI and cloud data centers

Gemtek Technology has announced the OMDN-107 800 Gbps Direct-Drive Linear Pluggable Optics (LPO) transceiver, targeting AI and cloud data center deployments. The new OSFP form-factor module uses the NewPhotonics NPG10202 LPO+ transmitter-on-chip, which integrates lasers, modulators, and on-chip optical signal processing for high-performance, low-power optical connectivity.

The OMDN-107 800G LPO transceiver delivers optical equalization and enhanced link performance within a compact, power-optimized design. Gemtek says this architecture enables efficient, scalable interconnect for hyperscale data center and AI infrastructure operators. Technical highlights include the use of an integrated optical equalizer and silicon photonics-based transmitter-on-chip, contributing to minimized system latency and improved real-world robustness under diverse network traffic conditions.

The new module is designed primarily for scale-out in hyperscale data centers and AI “factories,” with further portfolio expansion for telecom transport networks, according to Gemtek. The company is supporting this initiative by investing in research, development, and high-volume automated manufacturing of high-speed fiber transceivers.

The NPG10202 LPO+ transmitter-on-chip from NewPhotonics, used in the new transceiver, is aimed at supporting both current 800 Gbps and future 1.6 Tbps optical interconnects. The integration of optical signal processing directly onto the photonic integrated circuit is expected, according to NewPhotonics, to deliver industry-leading power efficiency and reliable performance.

“As hyperscalers demand faster, more efficient connectivity, our 800G LPO transceiver extends Gemtek’s leadership in pluggable solutions for AI and data center networks,” said James Lee, President, Gemtek. “With our high-volume automated manufacturing facilities, Gemtek is uniquely positioned to deliver reliable, cost-optimized transceivers at scale that will bridge the global supply gap as AI/ML-driven demand accelerates. Partnering with NewPhotonics allows us to bring to market the most advanced LPO solution available today, ensuring we meet both immediate customer needs and the industry’s long-term shift to silicon photonics.”

“Our collaboration with Gemtek is strong validation that the ecosystem recognizes LPO+ for today’s 800G and the step up to 1.6T LPO optical connectivity,” said Doron Tal, SVP and GM of Optical Connectivity at NewPhotonics. “Working with global leaders like Gemtek accelerates adoption of our LPO+ chips, which bring optical signal processing directly onto the photonic IC and redefines how data centers will scale interconnect for AI.”
