Infinitum unveils grid-friendly EC fan system to cut data center cooling power use by up to 25%

Infinitum has announced its new EC Fan Systems, an integrated fan, motor, and variable frequency drive solution designed for HVAC, industrial, and mission-critical applications. Infinitum says the systems target sites facing tight power budgets and rising electricity costs, aiming to reduce cooling power draw while freeing capacity for “revenue-generating workloads.”

Infinitum says the EC Fan Systems deliver up to 25% energy savings and up to 91% system efficiency, with “more airflow per kilowatt.” The company positions the product around an industry-leading Fan Energy Index (FEI), high power density, reliable performance, and quiet operation, and claims it can reduce required motors, kilowatts, and electrical infrastructure compared with traditional fan solutions.

On power quality, Infinitum says the systems use integrated Active Front End technology to keep total demand distortion (TDD) below 5% across the entire load curve. The company says this approach is intended to support “grid-friendly power” while eliminating the need for external harmonic filters, which it characterizes as expensive and prone to underperformance.

On system sizing, Infinitum says it uses flexible, custom-rated motors from 1-15HP so fan systems can be sized more precisely to application needs. With higher HP motors, Infinitum claims customers can use 20% fewer motors and fan systems, drawing fewer amps and reducing electrical infrastructure needs such as wiring, circuits, and transformers. Infinitum also says the design uses fewer components, includes built-in harmonic mitigation, and comes with dedicated system-level support specialists to improve maintenance and issue resolution and to lower total cost of ownership.

“Our new EC Fan Systems are designed to fundamentally change how energy is used, enabling operators and OEMs to unlock more capacity and performance from the power they already have — while easing strain on infrastructure and the grid,” said Ben Schuler, founder and CEO of Infinitum.
