Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US has introduced a next generation of its s‑MEXT precision cooling solution for data centers, telecommunications spaces, server rooms, UPS rooms, and other high sensible cooling applications. The s‑MEXT system pairs with Mitsubishi Electric P-Series Outdoor Units and adds new unit capacities, low-GWP outdoor unit compatibility, and a touchscreen controller.
The updated s‑MEXT line adds compatibility with Mitsubishi Electric PUY and PUZ R-454B outdoor units and supports 2-ton, 3.5-ton, and 5-ton unit options. For operators and designers, that combination matters in the real world because it affects both refrigerant selection and the range of right-sized capacity choices for small to mid-sized technical spaces, where oversizing can create humidity control headaches.
s‑MEXT is offered in two airflow configurations to match room construction. The unit can deliver air from the top for rooms with standard flooring (upflow air delivery) or from the bottom for raised-floor environments (downflow air delivery). Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US also calls out a compact footprint and long piping length capability for deployments where mechanical space is tight or routing constraints drive line-set decisions.
Controls get a notable update with the EVOLUTION+ controller, which includes a 7-inch touch screen and provides temperature and humidity management. The system supports LAN networking for centralized monitoring, balancing, and backup functionality, and it can integrate with a building management system using communication card accessories. In practice, built-in networking and BMS connectivity are often what separate “comfort cooling hardware” from equipment that can be operated like a piece of critical infrastructure.
On the mechanical side, s‑MEXT uses an inverter compressor and Electronically Commutated (EC) fans to adjust power needs in real time. It also uses a linear expansion valve to support cooling and to stabilize operation as loads fluctuate.
“With the next generation of s‑MEXT, we are advancing our precision cooling portfolio to better support customers managing environments where uptime is essential,” said James DeBerry, Manager of Commercial Marketing, METUS.
Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US is positioning the system for applications where dependable operation and minimized downtime are priorities, and says the new generation is designed for simpler installation and reduced initial setup time compared to prior generations.
