Google TPUs coming to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in 2027

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will add Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to its AI compute portfolio, making OCI the first hyperscale cloud provider outside Google to offer Google TPUs. The move gives OCI customers another accelerator option for AI training and inference workloads alongside existing architectures.

Oracle said OCI will provide the power, cooling, and data center networking needed to deploy Google TPUs at scale within its infrastructure. Google describes TPUs as custom accelerators co-designed with open software to support the AI lifecycle, including “frontier training and large-scale inference,” as well as the “multi-step reasoning data demands of agentic AI.”

For data center teams, the practical implication is straightforward: adding another high-end accelerator family to a hyperscale cloud isn’t just a SKU change. It affects how capacity is planned and delivered, because large accelerator clusters drive facility constraints around power delivery, heat rejection, and east-west network design. If OCI is serious about scaling TPUs broadly, it’s also signing up to operationalize a second company’s silicon roadmap at hyperscale.

Oracle and Google pointed to Google’s eighth-generation TPU lineup, which includes two architectures: TPU 8t for training and TPU 8i for inference. Google said TPU 8t “cuts frontier model development cycles from months to weeks” and delivers “nearly 3x the compute performance per pod over the previous generation,” while TPU 8i is designed for “the iterative work of many specialized agents.” Google also said TPUs are designed to maximize AI processing per watt, with fast access to model data and rapid communication between chips.

“Different AI workloads have different compute needs,” said Mahesh Thiagarajan, president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “Bringing Google TPUs to OCI gives customers access to multiple leading AI compute architectures in one cloud.”

“The next generation of AI will require a diverse range of compute,” said Amin Vahdat, senior vice president and chief technologist, AI & Infrastructure, Google. “Bringing Google TPUs to OCI will give more organizations access to this technology and greater flexibility in how they build and run their most complex AI applications.”

Oracle said Google TPUs on OCI are expected to be available in calendar year 2027, ramping over a multi-year period.
