Vertiv SmartIT pre-engineered AI infrastructure integrates power, cooling, monitoring

Vertiv has introduced Vertiv SmartIT, a pre-engineered platform intended to simplify high-density AI infrastructure deployments across existing facilities and new data centers. The Vertiv SmartIT design is based on NVIDIA MGX and Open Compute Project (OCP) ORV3 architectures, and it packages rack infrastructure, power, cooling, and monitoring into a factory-validated system.

Vertiv SmartIT integrates rack infrastructure, DC power conversion and distribution, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, in-rack cooling distribution, and monitoring. Vertiv says the architecture was previously deployed with NVIDIA to support the NVIDIA DGX GB300 system. Vertiv describes SmartIT as a validated design that connects to facility power and cooling infrastructure, with the goal of reducing on-site integration work by validating the integrated stack before shipment.

For data center teams trying to stand up AI capacity quickly, pre-engineered rack-level “building blocks” can reduce the amount of bespoke engineering required per site. But the trade-off is standardization: the value comes from repeating a known-good design rather than tuning every deployment to a unique room, rack lineup, or commissioning sequence.

Vertiv lists several deployment targets for SmartIT, including existing enterprise facilities, new builds, commercial spaces, colocation, and hyperscale environments. The company also describes the platform as scalable from a single rack to multi-rack deployments without redesign between phases.

On supported compute configurations, Vertiv says SmartIT supports NVIDIA GB300 NVL72, NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72, NVIDIA DGX Rubin NVL8, and NVIDIA HGX Rubin NVL8, built on NVIDIA MGX and OCP ORV3 architectures.

For operations and integration, SmartIT includes built-in monitoring and leak detection, plus support for Redfish, SNMP, and Modbus. Vertiv also points to Vertiv Global Services for deployment, commissioning, and lifecycle management.

SmartIT can also be used alongside other Vertiv systems. Vertiv SmartRun is listed as an option for row-level integration, Vertiv rack PDUs (rPDU) for power distribution and monitoring, and Vertiv Unify for monitoring, analytics, and controls across power and thermal infrastructure, including leak detection and coordinated response control.

“AI is fundamentally changing the demands placed on data center infrastructure, requiring closer coordination across power, cooling and IT systems to support increasingly complex workloads,” said Scott Armul, chief product and technology officer at Vertiv.

Vertiv says Vertiv SmartIT is available now globally.
