Allegro adds 800V data center current sensors and 48V cooling fan driver

Allegro MicroSystems has rolled out new power- and cooling-focused semiconductors aimed at 800 V AI data center power architectures and 48 V cooling systems. The lineup includes new package options for its ACS37030 and ACS37002 current sensors, an AHV85311 Power-Thru isolated gate driver for silicon carbide power stages, and an updated QuietMotion A89333 48 V motor driver for server cooling fans.

As described, the ACS37030 and ACS37002 current sensors are now offered in wide-body packages using a high comparative tracking index (CTI) mold compound, enabling 6000 V galvanic isolation. Allegro is targeting high-voltage monitoring and protection use cases in power supplies, battery backup units, and capacitor banks, where fast current measurement is used to react to sudden load swings. The company also points to the package form factor as a way to support 800 V systems without growing a rack power shelf or power supply unit footprint.

The new AHV85311 Power-Thru isolated gate driver is designed for SiC FETs in high-voltage power systems. Allegro says the device eliminates the need for a separate isolated power supply, and that this can reduce circuit-board space by up to 50%. In data center terms, that kind of integration is most interesting in cramped power conversion and protection designs—especially where designers are trying to increase power density without turning the power shelf into the limiting mechanical constraint.

On the cooling side, Allegro’s updated QuietMotion A89333 motor driver targets 48 V server fan designs. The company describes it as “code-free,” with built-in control technology intended to automatically manage changing airflow conditions, and it specifically calls out compatibility with compact fans used in 1U, 2U, and 4U servers. It also notes that the same class of products is designed to support pumps for liquid cooling systems. For operators, fan control silicon isn’t as visible as a CDU or a CRAH upgrade, but small control improvements can matter at fleet scale because fan power is a persistent tax that climbs quickly as server inlet temperatures rise and heat sinks get pushed harder.

Allegro also disclosed that power solutions provider Acbel Polytech has integrated Allegro’s high-speed current sensors into its latest high-density power solutions for AI data centers. “As power distribution architectures evolve to support higher power and voltage levels, precise power control and rapid system protection are becoming increasingly critical, with current sensing playing a key role,” said Rossi Lo, Head of Research and Development at Acbel.

Troy Coleman, Senior Vice President of Products at Allegro, said, “Our new products address these challenges at critical points in the system—from high-voltage power conversion and protection to intelligent cooling.”
