onsemi acquires Vcore power technology to boost AI data center power management solutions

onsemi has announced an agreement to acquire rights to Aura Semiconductor’s Vcore power technologies, including associated intellectual property licenses. onsemi reports this move is aimed at strengthening its power management portfolio to better address the end-to-end power needs of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, from grid input to core power delivery.

The acquisition is focused on enhancing onsemi’s range of intelligent power solutions, targeting the spectrum of data center power requirements. Vcore technology will be integrated into onsemi’s offerings for solid-state transformers, power supply units, 800 volt direct current (800 VDC) distribution, and advanced core power delivery systems. These improvements are intended to support the higher efficiency, power density, and thermal management needed for expanding compute capacity per rack in AI data center environments.

onsemi notes that it has decades of technical development in both silicon and silicon carbide technologies for high-efficiency power conversion and delivery. By adding Aura Semiconductor’s Vcore technologies, onsemi positions itself as one of the limited suppliers capable of delivering scalable and practical solutions that meet the demanding, high-density energy requirements of modern AI data centers.

onsemi expects minimal impact on its generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-GAAP earnings per share in the first fiscal year after closing, with accretion anticipated thereafter. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending customary conditions. Further details are available in the company’s filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

“Integrating these technologies into our broader power management portfolio will enable us to deliver solutions with superior power density, efficiency and thermals and enable more compute capacity per rack,” said Sudhir Gopalswamy, group president of the Intelligent Sensing and Analog and Mixed-Signal Group at onsemi.
