Tachyum opens Taiwan office for Prodigy Universal Processor production and logistics

Tachyum has announced the opening of new offices in Taiwan as part of its preparation for the production of the Prodigy Universal Processor, according to the company. This expansion includes manufacturing, testing, assembly, original design manufacturing (ODM), logistics, and support facilities, supporting Tachyum’s plan to deliver Prodigy chips globally with direct shipments and streamlined supply chain operations.

The company says its move into Taiwan is intended to accelerate tape-out and finished product distribution while avoiding the use of intermediaries and reducing both costs and environmental impact. Tachyum attributes the opening of its new facilities to support from the Taiwan government in strengthening economic ties with enterprises in the European Union, as well as its operations in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Prodigy’s Universal Processor targets data center workloads—including artificial intelligence, machine learning, high performance computing (HPC), and cloud applications—using a single, homogeneous architecture. Each chiplet in the Prodigy package reportedly integrates 256 custom 64-bit cores. Tachyum claims that Prodigy delivers orders of magnitude higher performance for AI, three times the performance of the highest-performing x86 central processing units (CPUs), and six times the performance of the highest-performing general-purpose graphic processing units (GPGPU) for HPC. The company says this design eliminates the need for separate, dedicated AI hardware and raises server utilization, reducing data center capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX) while improving performance and power efficiency.

“As we prepare for the final stage in Prodigy’s development, it is important to us to have facilities around the world to ensure the smooth production and distribution of the world’s first Universal Processor,” said Dr. Radoslav Danilak, founder and CEO of Tachyum. “With an established presence in the United States, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, turning to a technology hub like Taiwan provides tremendous benefits in terms of logistics by creating a strong foothold in Asia. With this latest expansion, we are well-positioned to service customers looking to leverage the benefits of the smallest, fastest and greenest general-purpose chip regardless of their location.”

Tachyum identifies data center, AI, HPC, and cloud applications as target markets for Prodigy.
