THz signal analysis: Keysight 89600 VSA upgrades adopted by AttoTude

Keysight and AttoTude are working together on signal analysis workflows aimed at terahertz (THz) interconnect development for AI and hyperscale data centers, with AttoTude adopting enhanced capabilities in Keysight’s 89600 Vector Signal Analysis (VSA) software.

AttoTude is developing an ASIC-based transmission approach that uses low-loss THz waveguides. The company’s THz platform operates at frequencies up to 1 THz, and it targets data rates up to 225 Gbaud using modulation formats including PAM4 and multi-level QAM.

On the test and measurement side, AttoTude is using Keysight’s UXR Oscilloscope and 89600 VSA software. Keysight’s VSA includes a FlexFrame measurement capability intended for characterizing high-speed waveforms modulated onto THz carriers. Recent FlexFrame updates include improved frequency-estimation algorithms designed to work in challenging channel conditions, streamlined predistortion and receiver equalization capabilities, and expanded modulation-format support.

For data center engineers watching the interconnect space, the practical takeaway is that THz links push measurement and DSP validation hard, because wide bandwidth, high symbol rates, and higher-order modulation quickly expose frequency offset, phase noise, and equalization limits. Better frequency estimation and a smoother predistortion/equalization workflow can shorten debug cycles when a team is trying to get a new physical layer behaving consistently.

“Keysight’s UXR Oscilloscope and 89600 VSA software with FlexFrame capabilities have proven invaluable in validating and evolving our THz technology,” said Dave Welch, co-founder and CEO of AttoTude. Joachim Peerlings, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Networks and Data Center Group, said AttoTude is “the kind of innovative customer that drives us to continually advance our signal analysis capabilities.”
