Bidgely launches vertical AI platform for utility data intelligence

Bidgely has introduced UtilityAI Pro, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform purpose-built for utility environments. According to Bidgely, UtilityAI Pro enables utility technology leaders to deploy machine learning models in their preferred data ecosystem—analyzing advanced metering infrastructure, customer, and grid data with up to 10 times greater granularity for more detailed behind-the-meter intelligence on customer behavior, appliance-level consumption, and grid performance.

The platform supports integration with leading cloud environments, allowing deployment without moving critical infrastructure data outside utilities’ established cloud ecosystems. Bidgely claims it analyzes over a terabyte of energy consumption data daily and incorporates over a decade of utility-focused AI, supported by 19 patents. UtilityAI Pro’s core machine learning models are designed for application directly within utilities’ data lakes and support emerging generative and agent-based AI uses in those environments.

Bidgely identifies data center growth as a key industry trend contributing to utility sector transformation, alongside electrification, regulatory pressures, affordability, and grid modernization. The company highlights the challenge of converting high volumes of AMI and information system data into actionable value for utilities, referencing findings from the IFS Global Utility Survey 2024 on digital transformation adoption in the sector.

Application areas for UtilityAI Pro include:

  • Granular customer profiling—appliance ownership, performance, and behavior
  • AI-driven customer engagement—personalized communications and increased program adoption
  • Precision targeting—identifying optimal program candidates based on device data
  • Grid modernization—bottom-up diagnostics and predictive visibility for resiliency planning
  • Distributed energy resource management—forecasting the impact of solar, storage, and electric vehicles on the grid
  • Rapid prototyping and deployment of custom AI applications, natively within a utility’s tech stack
  • Real-time intelligence sharing across operational domains to improve management and reduce costs

Abhay Gupta, CEO of Bidgely, said, “As the longtime leader in utility-specific AI technology, we hear consistently from CIOs their hesitation to share critical infrastructure data outside their established cloud. We developed UtilityAI Pro as a single platform with patented utility-specific machine learning models designed to power existing investments in data lakes, generative and agentic AI on the utility’s cloud. This focus ensures technology leaders can drive transformation across the entire utility.”

Hunter Horgan, managing director of Renown Capital Partners and Bidgely investor, commented, “UtilityAI Pro represents a quantum leap in utility data science, specifically because of how it integrates into the existing utility infrastructure,” noting its flexible integration to enrich utility applications with detailed operational intelligence.
