Coherent launches dual-laser QSFP28-DCO module for single-fiber 100G data center and server interconnects

Coherent has announced the general availability of what it claims is the industry’s first dual-laser QSFP28-DCO module, designed to enable bi-directional 100G coherent transmission over a single working fiber. Coherent says the module targets fiber-constrained network environments by bringing coherent optics into a compact QSFP28 form factor and enabling 100G links where adding fiber is limited or expensive.

Coherent says the module lets operators deploy bi-directional 100G coherent links over one fiber and run multiple 100G services on existing infrastructure. The company reports the design can extend reach up to 300 km and deliver up to a 10x capacity upgrade compared to legacy 10G bi-directional links, while maintaining operational simplicity and compatibility with deployed equipment.

“Coherent continues to strengthen its leadership in 100G QSFP28-DCO solutions with innovations that directly address real-world network constraints,” said Moran Roth, VP Product Line Management of Transmission at Coherent. “This dual-laser capability expands our portfolio to better serve Cable/MSO and wireless transport applications, delivering greater flexibility, scalability, and value to customers operating in fiber-limited environments.”

Coherent says the dual-laser QSFP28-DCO has been generally available beginning in March 2026. It notes the module uses the same technology platform as its single-laser QSFP28-DCO modules, which the company reports have been deployed worldwide for the past two years.
