AIP Corp launches 8 GW behind-the-meter power microgrid platform for AI data center campuses in West Virginia

Fidelis New Energy and 8090 Industries have announced the launch of American Intelligence & Power Corporation (AIP Corp), a platform to develop, own, and operate large-scale, fully integrated AI infrastructure and behind-the-meter power microgrids for hyperscale and enterprise data center customers. The company’s flagship project is the Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia, which Fidelis says reflects more than three years of development and is designed for multi-phase deployment with “utility-grade” compute and onsite power.

According to the announcement, Monarch is planned as an 8 GW generation platform structured as a fully integrated, behind-the-meter energy and compute ecosystem intended to support AI-driven workloads that require consistent power quality, rapid responsiveness, and continuous-duty performance. AIP Corp says the design targets high availability power performance, including managing extreme load variability associated with advanced AI compute, along with “sovereign operational control” for security-sensitive and latency-sensitive workloads.

The site is positioned for large-scale buildout with “robust fiber connectivity,” rail access, and proximity to “a major US inland port and logistics corridor,” plus industrial water access for operations and resiliency planning, the companies said. Monarch is also described as having access to multiple natural gas pipeline laterals tied to Appalachian Basin supply, which AIP Corp says supports long-term fuel reliability and supply diversity.

Technically, Monarch’s integrated power design combines “commercially proven, fast-response natural gas generation” with battery energy storage systems (BESS) to maintain power quality and provide load-following performance for highly dynamic AI workloads, according to the release. Fidelis says the system was developed using the patent-pending FidelisAIsland optimization approach, which “integrates equipment selection and operating parameters to minimize cost and environmental impacts while responding to the extreme load swings associated with AI data centers.” The companies add that Monarch is designed to comply with applicable air permitting requirements and that, because it is a fully self-supplied behind-the-meter platform, it “will not increase rates or add costs for existing residential, commercial, or industrial utility customers.”

Monarch’s microgrid structure is authorized under West Virginia House Bill 2014 (HB2014) “as its own islanded utility with special microgrid status,” the release said, framing the legislation as providing regulatory clarity intended to enable faster execution while protecting existing utility customers. AIP Corp said it is backed by LuminArx Capital Management and other strategic investors, with 8090 Industries serving as a founding strategic partner.
