Aeonsemi has rolled out its ArcadiumNano family of all-silicon oscillators, targeting space-constrained designs that still need wide frequency coverage, automotive-grade temperature operation, and built-in spread-spectrum clocking (SSC) to help with EMC. The new family brings Aeonsemi’s Arcadium DSP timing technology into packages as small as 1.2 × 1.0 mm and supports output frequencies from 10 kHz to 125 MHz.
Arcadium oscillators use electronic LC resonators implemented in standard CMOS rather than mechanical resonators used in quartz and MEMS devices. Aeonsemi pairs that LC approach with on-chip DSP, sensing, and compensation to maintain output frequency across temperature. The company says more than 50 million Arcadium oscillators have shipped into networking, data center, and industrial applications, with zero reported field-return failures to date.
For ArcadiumNano specifically, Aeonsemi lists up to an 80% power reduction versus previous-generation Arcadium devices, an operating temperature range up to +125°C, and a continuous supply range of 1.62 V to 3.63 V. A built-in LDO is included for power-supply noise rejection. Frequency stability is specified at ±50 ppm total stability across the operating temperature range. SSC is programmable for center or down spread up to ±3.9%.
Package options include industry-standard 1210 (1.2 × 1.0 mm), 2016 (2.0 × 1.6 mm), 2520 (2.5 × 2.0 mm), and 3225 (3.2 × 2.5 mm). Aeonsemi lists –40°C to +125°C operation with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 for the 3225, 2520, and 2016 packages, and –40°C to +105°C for the 1210 package in an “extended industrial grade” range.
Integrated SSC is a practical design lever for systems where radiated emissions margins are tight: spreading clock energy can help meet EMC targets without adding a separate PLL-based clock generator and its board-space and BOM costs.
“Customers value not only the performance and flexibility of Arcadium, but also how quickly we can respond to their timing needs,” said Yunteng Huang, CEO of Aeonsemi. Aeonsemi also states that custom samples can be available within two weeks, and that ArcadiumNano samples and production quantities are available now through Aeonsemi and its distribution partners.
