Dominion KX III G2 KVM-over-IP adds API automation and FIPS security

Legrand has introduced the Dominion KX III G2, a new generation of its Raritan-branded KVM-over-IP matrix aimed at secure remote hardware access, day-to-day troubleshooting, and faster recovery when outages, software failures, or cyber incidents disrupt operations.

KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) remote access is commonly used to interact with servers and connected devices as if an operator were physically in front of them, including scenarios where the operating system is unresponsive or software-based remote tools aren’t available. Legrand is pitching the Dominion KX III G2 for that “below the OS” access, including tasks like reaching BIOS settings and restarting systems into safe mode during recovery.

The platform is built on Legrand’s Xerus architecture, which also underpins the company’s intelligent PDU portfolio. Dominion KX III G2 adds a management API intended for deployments ranging from 10 to 10,000 devices, plus a built-in SDK for automating workflows such as mouse movement, video capture, and integrations with internal tools.

On the remote console side, Legrand says the system uses proprietary video compression to deliver sharper visuals, richer color depth, and lower bandwidth consumption. It supports 60 fps performance at 1080p or 1920×1200 resolution, and it includes audio support.

Security features listed for the Dominion KX III G2 include a FIPS 140-2 certified cryptographic module, Secure Boot for firmware verification, and an integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for hardware-based credential protection.

The company also positions the product for a range of network and access scenarios, describing support for deployments across LAN, WAN, internet, mobile, or dial-up connections.

For data center operators, the practical appeal of KVM-over-IP is straightforward: when an incident takes out an OS-level access path, you still need a way to see the console, change firmware settings, and bring a host back without rolling a truck. The interesting angle here is the combination of scale-oriented automation (API plus SDK) with the security controls that many environments require when remote access becomes part of standard operations rather than a last-resort tool.

“IT teams need consistent, secure control of their infrastructure every day and immediate access when systems go down—regardless of location, scale or what layer of the stack has failed,” said Paul Mott, Product Management Director at Legrand.

Dominion KX III G2 is sold under Legrand’s Raritan brand.
