Elea Data Centers has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Rio de Janeiro and Oracle to advance the Rio AI City project, a large-scale data center hub to be located in the Olympic Park area. The agreement was signed during the Rio Innovation Week event on August 14, with the stated goal of transforming Olympic Park into the largest data center hub in Latin America and among the ten largest globally.
Elea reports that Rio AI City will be equipped to support high-density rack deployments for artificial intelligence and cloud computing workloads, with a power supply derived from one of the world’s most stable electrical grids. The company claims that the project’s 100 percent renewable energy supply and robust infrastructure are intended to make it a strategic entry point for businesses seeking green energy and advanced data center capabilities.
The Memorandum of Understanding includes institutional support from the City of Rio de Janeiro, including the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar), and Invest.Rio. Oracle has positioned itself as a technology partner in the project.
“With this partnership, we are taking a decisive step toward fulfilling our purpose of building great green infrastructure,” said Alessandro Lombardi, President and Founder of Elea Data Centers. “Rio AI City is being built with robust infrastructure, clean energy, and high connectivity — ready to attract talent and businesses that will shape the next digital era. Brazil, and especially Rio de Janeiro, now have the opportunity to be at the center of this global transformation.”
“With Rio AI City, we reinforce Oracle’s commitment to providing Brazil and Latin America with cutting-edge AI technology and data center infrastructure,” said Alexandre Maioral, President of Oracle Brazil. “We aim to help companies and institutions innovate faster, with secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions.”
