EPC begins mass production of 18 V GaN FET for AI server DC-DC converters

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has moved the EPC2370 18 V GaN FET into mass production, targeting high-current DC-DC stages used in next-generation AI server power architectures. EPC is pitching the device at designs pushing higher switching frequency and power density, where conduction loss and switching loss are both hard constraints.

The EPC2370 is specified at 18 V continuous with a 22 V transient voltage rating. EPC says that transient rating allows it to replace MOSFETs with voltage ratings as high as 25 V. On the electrical side, EPC lists a 0.28 mΩ typical RDS(on), a 101 A continuous current rating, and 26 nC gate charge, and it calls out “ultra-low switching losses.” The part is built on EPC’s seventh-generation GaN platform and comes in a 3.3 mm × 3.3 mm thermally enhanced, dual-side-cooled PQFN package.

For data center power teams, the interesting point isn’t the marketing around “AI power”—it’s the combination of very low on-resistance, high current rating, and packaging meant to move heat out efficiently at the board level. In dense DC-DC modules, shrinking magnetics by pushing toward 1 MHz switching can be attractive, but it tends to make switching loss and layout parasitics unforgiving. Devices that keep QG and RDS(on) down are aimed squarely at that trade space.

EPC frames the EPC2370 around AI power architectures “transitioning to 800 VDC power distribution” and adopting 6 V high-density, multi-kilowatt intermediate bus converters operating at 1 MHz or higher. The EPC2370 is optimized for center-tapped synchronous rectification in 48 V-to-6 V and 800 V-to-6 V power converters. EPC also claims peak efficiencies of 98% and full-load efficiencies of 97% in high-density power modules.

“Together with our recently released primary-side GaN switches (EPC2305, EPC2367, EPC2361), the EPC2370 was specifically developed for 6 V output, high-current synchronous rectification, enabling next-generation high-density, high-current power supplies where a low R × Q figure of merit is critical,” said Jason Zhang, Vice President of DC-DC Marketing and System Engineering at EPC.

To support evaluation, EPC is offering the EPC90168 evaluation board, a 2″ × 2″ half-bridge design using two EPC2370 devices. EPC says the board includes the critical components, an optimized layout to maximize switching performance, and multiple probe points for waveform and efficiency measurements.

The EPC2370 is available through distribution, including Digi-Key and Mouser, with EPC noting a production ramp to meet demand. Pricing is listed at US$ 2.52 each in 1,000-piece quantities, and the EPC90168 evaluation board is listed at $260.
