MaxLinear samples 50A and 60A intelligent eFuses for AI rack power telemetry

MaxLinear has added two 16 V high-current electronic fuses (eFuses) to its AI infrastructure control-plane portfolio, targeting rack-scale power-path protection and telemetry in dense AI systems. The new parts, MxL745950 and MxL745951P, are aimed at protecting and monitoring power paths in AI servers, accelerator trays, data center switches, fan trays, power shelves, plug-in modules, and rack-scale platforms.

The MxL745950 is specified as a 16 V, 50 A eFuse with 1 mΩ on-resistance in a 5 mm × 5 mm LGA-32 package. It integrates current sensing, temperature monitoring, fault indication, programmable soft-start, and parallel-operation capability intended to support higher-current applications.

The MxL745951P steps up to a 16 V, 60 A “stackable” eFuse with 0.79 mΩ on-resistance in a 5 mm × 4.5 mm VQFN-26L package. It adds a PMBus/I²C interface, configurable protection thresholds, non-volatile fault recording, and active current balancing during start-up and steady-state operation. MaxLinear also lists telemetry outputs for input voltage, input current, input energy, output voltage, output current, input power, output power, and “high-precision” current monitoring with ±1% accuracy.

For data center engineers, the interesting part isn’t the word “AI”—it’s the combination of hot-swap/inrush control, low milliohm on-resistance, and per-rail telemetry in packages sized for crowded server and accelerator power distribution. As racks add more power domains and higher currents, protection that can both trip cleanly and leave behind useful fault data can shorten MTTR when a single module or tray goes sideways.

MaxLinear lists protection features including UVP, OVP, OCP, SCP, OTP, MOSFET fault diagnosis, and fault reporting across the portfolio, with the MxL745951P called out for “black-box” fault recording and non-volatile configuration storage.

“Our new eFuse solutions extend MaxLinear’s role across AI servers, accelerator trays, switches, fan trays, power shelves, and rack-level platforms by helping customers build more observable, serviceable, and resilient power architectures,” said Amit D. Bavisi, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and General Manager, Analog Mixed-Signal Business Unit at MaxLinear.
