Molex has signed a long-term supply agreement with Prysmian for optical cable supply aimed at meeting rising fiber connectivity demand inside data centers, particularly for AI-driven buildouts. Under the agreement, Prysmian will supply optical cables to Molex for up to 10 years, with the stated goal of increasing available supply for customers building and expanding data center infrastructure.
Prysmian’s work under the deal includes extending production of optical cables and fiber across plants in the US, including the glass preform stage. Molex and Prysmian say this expansion is intended to double Prysmian’s domestic fiber capacity. Prysmian also expects the effort to result in more than 1,000 jobs created worldwide, including 600 jobs across US manufacturing sites.
For data center engineers and network infrastructure teams, the immediate implication is less about new connector technology and more about supply assurance. When large-scale AI clusters drive rapid increases in interconnect counts, the practical constraint often becomes lead times and sourcing continuity for fiber, not just port density. A multi-year supply commitment can reduce procurement risk for large deployments, assuming the added capacity comes online as planned.

Molex said the agreement is intended to provide increased supply chain optionality and resilience through diversified sourcing for fiber connectivity deployments.
